The vineyards of J.Mourat, 67 hectares of them, lie in the intriguingly named Fiefs Vendéens-Mareuil, inland from the Atlantic coast, below the Loire estuary.The stunning Château Marie du Fou, one of the oldest fortified farmhouses in the southern Loire it dates from the 12th century and has survived intact the Hundred Years War, the Revolution and all the ravages of more modern times, is the family home and headquarters of the winemaking operation. Jean Mourat started to modernise the winery over 35 years ago and for the last eight has been joined by his son Jérémie in this excellent domaine.
Vin de pays Vendeens. Terres Quarts vineyard is the name of a locality close to the river and the Chateau Marie du Fou.
Tasting notes: clear and luminous gold robe. Fine nose mixing with white flowers, honey notes and white fruits.The mouth seduced by its depth, silky and a perfectly balanced by a rich and vigorous finish.13.5% of alcohol. A very small production of 1600 bottles.
Terroir of méta-rhyolites (volcanic rock) located close to the river is favorable to the development of the botrytis. 100% Chenin, harvested by hands from September 22 to 29, in biologic AB conversion using no pesticide and chemical. Aged for 8 months 1/3 in oak vat of 3500 liters, and 2/3 in Nomblot egg.
