Master the basics of wine during this 5 week course at Temple University Japan.

Swirl, sniff and sip wine like a pro. Each session we will taste and evaluate five premium, classic wines specially selected from one of the world's greatest Old World or New World wine regions. Travel through the fascinating story of wine and discover the importance of "terroir & tradition." Investigate viticulture/growing the wine and vinification/cooking the wine. Understand why some food and wine matches are made in heaven. Learn how to handle the wine waiter with panache and how to decipher wine labels and wine lists. Determine the best way to select, invest in and cellar wines. Depending on the semester, we either take a day field trip for an in-depth private lecture and winery tour from an American wine maker or have a professional from the international wine trade show us the secrets of 'wine as a business' in class. This class runs for a total of 5 sessions of 4 hours each.

This course is taught by a holder of a certified WSET (Diploma) London, Member of Society of Wine Educators, U.S.A.

Special Note:
Students will be required to pay a one-time material fee of 20,000 to the instructor on the first class meeting to cover 5 weeks of fine wines valued at 120,000-200,000 total.

This course will run on the following five Saturdays in Fall 2011: 9/24, 10/1, 10/15, 10/22, and 10/29.
