Elio Locanda Italiano
Hard to find, tucked into a side avenue on the borderline between Hirakawa-cho and Hanzomon next to Kojimachi, Elio's is worth the wandering and searching! When you find it be prepared for a warm welcome and rousing time in the noisiest, friendliest, most convivial Italian restaurant in the city!
Great food from the Calabria district of Italia along with all time favorites, too! No surprises, no foo-foo artistry or sleight-of-hand "kidori" (affectations or posturing) - just a sincere warmth and ambiance. Proprietor Elio is there every night (and if not, his brother or trusted managers) and the hospitality is palpable! Intimate, jovial, airy and always busy - decor is homey and Italian eclectic, like somebody's mom was expecting company and wanted the place to "look nice!"
A Locanda is an Italian neighborhood eatery usually run by somebody's grandma or aunt - informal and casual, homey and friendly. Elio's is all of that! The man (Elio Orsara) hails from the Calabria area of Italy 'way in the south of Italy. Great food! Great service! Friendly atmosphere and wonderful staff! Old World Italian hospitality at it's finest!
Lunch ranging from 1,600 to 3,800 JPY for full-courses and dinner from 5,500 ~ 10,000 JPY. Of course A la Carte and Omakase is really the way to go! For me, the wine has to be from Calabria and, surprise/surprise their the cheapest choices on the menu, too! Oh, there's lots of good stuff there too! And, you'll not be disappointed by the Super Tuscan's, Piemonte's, Sicilian, and others from every wine producing region in the country!
